Environmentally friendly floors

Corcoleum, Maplette has been successfully installed in printing works, bakeries, motor assembly plants, warehouses, shoe factories, schools, offices, industrial organisations, public buildings, cinemas, loading-bays, staircases, steel decks such as ships, etc. Maplette is the finest floor available for use in factories; Maplette will withstand the hardest wear from the heaviest traffic. Maplette is an environmental friendly product and we were delighted to exhibit the floor as part of our Decorex Dream Room.

The Story

Corcoleum FloorCorcoleum Floor
  1. What is the final product made of?

Sawdust, Magnesite, Magnesium Chloride, Iron oxide pigments. The final product is manufactured in South Africa and the Magnesite and Chloride come from Holland.

  2. Describe the transport journey of the parts or ‘ingredients’ of the product to you.

The products from Holland are shipped to us in a container. The sawdust is from the local sawmills. We will be transporting it on a truck as a bakkie will be to small.

  3. What is the life of the product?

The company has been going since 1925 and there are still floors down today that were installed back then. So far the life span is 84 years.

  4. Is the final product recyclable?

It could be, if you crush it up and use it as a sub base for insulation before you pour concrete. Yes it would have a low carbon foot print. If you don’t recycle it you can dump it in landfills and it won’t harm the environment as we have not added any toxic chemicals to it.

  5. Does the product contain any VOC’s? Etc., Any regulations and standards?

5As far as we know there are no VOC’s. We are in the process of getting it tested so we can have paper work to go with it.

  6. Does your company and or factory have any water saving programs in place.

We use very minimal amounts of water at our premises.

  7. Do your company have any future plans on improving the sustainability and environmentally friendly quality of the products?

We can’t get more eco friendly than what we are at the moment.

  8. Are you involved in any community upliftment, charities or social development programs?

All employees start as labourer and work their way up to different levels so that every person knows how the other man’s job is done and can also do it.
